The death toll from Hurricane Sandy continues to rise. Deaths that could have been prevented. What does it take for people to understand the word Evacuate??
What excuses did they tell themselves that enticed them to stay while they could see on every station and on every news cast that this storm was huge. That they were in the path of a storm so destructive that it covered 800 miles.
yet on NBC tonight I watched people from New York screaming because they didn't have immediate help or help even on day 3. I feel for those whose lives were lost. However, they didn't need to be lost. Parents who didn't heed the warnings. From the President to the Governors, to the Mayors and others who told them to leave. That they were in danger if they stayed and still they stayed. Now they blame that same government for not getting to them fast enough. There are millions of people in that area. Millions of them. How can they expect to be all taken care of that quickly. Where do they lay the blame, not on themselves for staying in harms way. They didn't learn any thing from Hurricane Katrina.
For all those that left and are alive I am sure they are grateful that they did. Yes they lost their homes many of them. Yes they lost their treasurer's that can't be replaced. And yes life is going to be tough starting all over again. But until people realize that if they build their homes where they can be so easily destroyed and where climate change is making it more than likely that they very will be destroyed then people had better get out when they are told to evacuate.
It's going to take a long time to put the East Coast back together again. I hope all the people in the United States realize that no one is to blame if it can't be fixed over night or even in a week or a month. Nature takes a back seat to no one.
I do hope those who can afford to and especially those who live in those states and can afford to help do so. As a tax payer I get incensed when I hear people complain about their taxes. Like we are forced to contribute to our Country. I also get incensed over those who will manipulate the tax codes to pay the least they can while reaping in more money than they can ever spend in a life time or many lifetimes. We only need so much stuff. Jesus said "You reap what you sow". As a country we need to be sowing seeds of brotherhood, and seeds of thinking United States of America not my party comes first and the Hell with America.
I am sure Mayor Bloomberg, is doing all he can to get help to all of those who so foolishly stayed when they were told to leave. I also pray that help can get to them who need it the most as soon as it can. I also Pray that those who stayed accept the fact that its going to be a rough haul for awhile. And that they Blame themselves not everyone else. And after they have faced that blame they start doing what ever it takes to help themselves and others.
I've been told that I'm foolish because I have a generator, I have means for water, heat, and I always have a pantry full of food that won't spoil. It didn't cost a lot to be prepared even though I live in an area that does not have hurricanes. We could have bad storms. Still if I saw one coming and I knew I had even a minimal chance of having my home destroyed I would leave. I pray the next time a storm looms people finally will listen.
